A few weeks ago we reached the halfway point of the latest season of Dancing with the Stars, the thrilling ballroom dance competition that has taken TikTok by storm. The concept of the show revolves around a star-studded cast member partnered with one of the show’s “pros,” who they will dance with for a chance to win the Mirrorball trophy. This season’s cast includes: Jen Affleck (reality TV personality), Hilaria Baldwin (podcaster), Jordan Chiles (Olympic gymnast), Baron Davis (NBA point guard), Alix Earle (social media personality), Dylan Efron (reality tv personality), Corey Feldman (actor), Danielle Fishel (actress), Elaine Hendrix (actress), Scott Hoying (singer), Robert Irwin (wildlife conservationist), Lauren Jauregui (singer), Whitney Leavitt (reality tv personality), and Andy Richter (actor and comedian).
A few weeks ago was “Wicked Night,” which also celebrated the season’s halfway mark. The remaining stars competed to hit songs from the musical. The night started off with a custom video from film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande wishing the pairs good luck and to “rejoicify!” As the night continued the celebrity and pro duos danced to some of the most “popular” songs from the musical. Notably, Whitney Leavitt and her partner Mark Ballas received this season’s first perfect score, getting a ten for their quickstep to “Popular.” Later on, duo Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa received three tens for their rumba to “For Good.” The night also featured the Wicked film duology’s director Jon M. Chu as a guest judge.
Unfortunately, for the show to go on, the night must conclude with an elimination ceremony. Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying and partner Rylee Arnold joined the ranks of eliminated couples. Although he was sad to go, Hoying shared that he feels “really, really lucky” to have participated in the six weeks he had on the show.
Since the season has been underway for several weeks now, many fans have developed strong opinions for how they hope the competition ends. Richwoods student Sydney Plavec shared she hopes “Robert Irwin will win. He’s shown lots of improvement and passion for the show, and he’s very fun to watch.”
Dancing with the Stars is streamed live every Tuesday at 7:00 CST on Disney+ and ABC. You can vote to save your favorite star during the live show, so make sure to tune in each week!
