The Richwoods Girls Golf team delivered a standout performance throughout the 2025 season, finishing undefeated with an 8–0 match-play record. In a year marked by historic milestones and exceptional growth, the young Lady Knights secured an impressive third consecutive victory over the Notre Dame Lady Irish, reaffirming their place as one of the rising programs in the area.
The season showcased not only consistency but also impressive development across the roster. With a lineup composed primarily of underclassmen, the Lady Knights demonstrated a maturity beyond their years. Their unity and stability under pressure became defining characteristics of their success, especially as they faced more experienced teams throughout the fall.
One of the season’s defining moments came at the Metamora Regional Tournament, where every Richwoods golfer set a new personal best. Three players advanced individually to Sectionals: Clara “Grogg” Gregg, Gloria Hayes, and Addie Behringer. Freshman Gloria Hayes led the charge with an exceptional score of 82, followed closely by Gregg at 84 and Behringer at 86. Their performances highlighted the team’s depth and potential for future postseason runs.
The improvement was nothing short of dramatic. Earlier in the season, the Lady Knights posted a team score of 384 at the same Metamora course. Returning for Regionals only a month later, they slashed an astounding 40 strokes off their total, finishing fifth out of 12 teams and falling just nine strokes short of qualifying for Sectionals as a group. Coach Thomas Hayes reflected on the performance, remarking that “Dropping 40 strokes as a team in golf is crazy; I was confident we would be competitive, but not expecting everyone to shoot personal bests. It was awesome.”
Despite the impressive showing, advancing as a full team proved a tall task. Coach Hayes noted that the 2025 Regional field was “the toughest I have ever seen in 17 years of coaching golf,” underscoring both the challenge and the significance of Richwoods’ achievements. Even in the face of such heightened competition, the Lady Knights stayed on course and cemented their reputation as a program on the rise.
Looking ahead, the team appears ready for continued success. With a young, driven roster and a strong foundation of teamwork, Richwoods aims to push deeper into postseason play next year. Winning the Big 12 Conference title, once a distant goal, now seems increasingly attainable.
Coach Hayes has spent the season not only developing skilled athletes but also fostering a culture centered on sportsmanship and integrity. Speaking proudly of his team, he expressed a deep “honor and privilege to be their coach.”
