Richwoods High School has a variety of clubs that appeal to many different students. However, one of the most popular clubs, with over 200 students involved, is the Richwoods Interact Club supervised by Dr. Kelsey Clarkson. The club also partners with the Peoria Rotary North to accomplish its goals. Dr. Clarkson shares Interact’s mission statement as “service above self.” The club’s members aim to serve the community by offering tutoring, childcare, donations, as well as hosting numerous events to connect the students of Richwoods High School. If convenience is a factor that you take into consideration, Interact Club operates under various convenient aspects. For example, there is only one meeting per month and it is held during lunches. For students that participate in activities or sports after school, Interact Club’s schedule would allow an individual to have time to do all their extracurriculars, eliminating stress. To further appeal to students, lunch consisting of pizza and cookies is provided for students that attend the meetings. This addition makes the meetings more enjoyable as well as providing an incentive for attendees.
Another factor you may take into consideration when learning about clubs is their purpose. Interact Club’s club is to serve the Peoria and Richwoods High School community. Throughout the year, they host many student-led events such as Richwoods’ Halloween Knight, Valentine’s Babysitting for Staff, the Chocolate Milk Run, and baking dog treats for local shelters. All these events foster a welcoming community between Richwoods High School and the city of Peoria. Dr. Clarkson shares that her favorite event that Interact Club hosts is Halloween Knight. She continues to explain that “Not only does the event provide a safe space for children under 10 to trick or treat, but it raises money for Polio Awareness, gains donors for our upcoming blood drives, gains donations for the Midwest Food Bank, and provides an opportunity for other RHS clubs and sports to get involved.”
