As the fall break approaches, I took the opportunity to ask 30 students at Richwoods about their plans for fall break. The responses were kind of unexpected, with many people planning to be productive instead of resting, like I’m going to be.
The most popular answer by far was playing video games. Many students talked about how they’re going to play their favorite games for all of fall break (me included) with games like Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, and others. For all the gamers, fall break is the perfect chance to unwind with friends, and get a break from the beginning of the year. Layla Fisher was one of the students who said she was excited to play Dress to Impress (A Roblox game) with her best friend, all of break.
However, gaming wasn’t the only way students plan to spend their break. Many students also said they would be hanging out with their friends over break. Whether it was visiting each other’s homes or just texting/calling each other. Socializing was a big part of a lot of people’s fall break plans. Kyleigh Fleming, for instance, said she’s going to spend fall break with her best friend and boyfriend with no specific plans.
Surprisingly, a few students are going to prioritize fitness, instead. They mentioned plans to exercise, whether through running, training, or just simply going to the gym daily. For them, fall break isn’t just about relaxation, it’s also a chance to stay active. One athlete, Zoe Strickler, a member of the cross-country team, said she’s going to be running in the morning with the cross-country team.
While most responses were going to be taking place in Peoria, a few students said they were looking forward to traveling. Whether it’s visiting family, or taking a short vacation, these students were excited to change the pace a bit. Sophomore Riley Lopez was going to go to New England with her family. Even though fall break is only two weeks, travelling a still an option for some.
As for my own fall break plans, I’m going to try to take in all the cozy vibes of the fall season, by reading and listening to music. I’ll be playing my favorite games, with some friends. I also plan to binge-watch a ton of classical Halloween movies. And of course, I’ll be waking up late every day because, let’s be honest, I really need that extra sleep. Whatever your plans may be, I hope everyone enjoys a well needed break filled with joy and relaxation.
