It’s a pleasure to welcome a new math teacher to Richwoods High School. This is Mrs. Still’s first-year teaching math at Richwoods High School. She currently teaches Algebra 1 Enriched, Algebra 2 Enriched, and Geometry. I asked her a couple questions to get to know her better.
Mrs. Still’s mom was a math teacher at Woodruff High School. Growing up Mrs. Still got to witness her mom be the difference in her students’ lives (some of whom work here at Richwoods). Because of her mom’s influence, she knew that she wanted to teach and be the difference in her students’ lives.
Mrs. Still got her bachelor’s degree in math and secondary education from Bradley University. She got her master’s degree in teaching and leadership from Saint Xavier University. She has been teaching for 28 years. She has taught at various schools in the area. She taught for 8 years (1997-2005) at Samuel H. White Middle School which closed in 2008. After leaving in 2005, Mrs. Still went to Woodruff High School where she taught for 5 years until it’s closure in 2010. After Woodruff Mrs. Still went to Peoria High School where she taught for 14 years (2010-2024)! She is now happy to be a teacher here at Richwoods High School.
From those schools, Mrs. Still has met numerous teachers who currently work at Richwoods, “I have previously worked with Coach Boyer, Mr. Hayes, Mr. McKenna, Mrs. Withrow, Dr. Clarkson, Mr. Hogan, Mr. Fauser, Mr. Urbanc (he student taught at Woodruff), Mrs. Hankins, Mrs. Stuber, Mr. Corpuz, Mr. Eisfelder, Mr. Crowson, Mr. Rhodes, Mrs. Khoury, Mrs. Theobald, Mr. Bowlby. I’ve served on committees with Mr. Shultz, Mrs. Maughan, and Mr. Hickman. I’ve known Mr. O’Malley from church and Mrs. Harris from when she was in my mom’s class at Woodruff.”
Mrs. Still has taught 7th grade and 8th grade math, Basic and Enriched: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry, and a long time ago she taught Trigonometry. Her favorite subject to teach is Geometry because it is so visual.
In her free time Mrs. Still enjoys going on walks or drinking coffee with her daughter of her friends. She is also a very big Marvel and Harry Potter fan and has several posters hanging in her room. She loves taking trips with her husband, daughter, and future son-in-law. Mrs. Still enjoys listening to Contemporary Christian music and 80’s rock. She loves going to Chicago to see Broadway musicals with her daughter. Her favorite musical is Phantom of the Opera. She also enjoys doing crafts, crocheting, and spending time outside doing yard work or going on hikes. She says that she is in that weird “what do I do now that my child is an adult” phase. So, she is currently rediscovering what she enjoys doing.
I asked Mrs. Still what life advice she has for her students, she says, “Don’t give up when things get tough or if you make a poor choice.” She was inspired by the quote, “You can take a couple wrong turns and still end up where you’re supposed to be,” from the song Up Again by Dan Bremnes.
