Hopping around St. Louis!
On Thursday August 29, 2024 the seniors of the IB (international baccalaureate) program took a trip to St. Louis, Missouri. Organized by Mr. Hayes, the IB coordinator, the trip consisted of a college visit, lunch, and a show. The seniors had 45 minutes to roam around Washington University (Wash-U), which is well known for its beautiful campus and luxurious dorms. This is not the first college campus this years IB seniors have visited though. Last September they visited Illinois State University as juniors and got to eat at the ISU dining hall. It was a great experience to see campus life and get a feel for different schools.
However, on this trip to St. Louis, the seniors had time to eat off Wash-U’s campus and on the famous Delmar Loop! Famous for it’s environment, the Delmar Loop in downtown St. Louis was very “eye-opening” according to IB senior Olivia Reynolds. From boba at Corner17 to barbecue at Salt & Smoke and an ice cream sundae at Fitz, the Delmar Loop was the perfect place to take a group of 50 teenagers who had been on a bus since seven in the morning. While the seniors were only there for about an hour, they all experienced something different. A group of girls went to Amigo Sole where they got to dance with their servers. Another group went to Blueberry Hill and got to play vintage arcade games. Everyone has agreed their experience at Delmar was fabulous.
But the trip had just barely started and the next place the seniors went was literally a fabulous place. Known for its remarkable lobby, the IB seniors went to the Fabulous Fox theater to watch the Broadway sensation Hamilton. Most of the seniors have been a fan of the hit musical since middle school! Senior Addie Lefler said it was “an opportunity of a lifetime!” She was supposed to go with her family in 2020 but Covid canceled the trip. A few teachers and administrators went along to supervise the seniors, but they also made a trip out of it. Mr. Urbanc, a higher level math teacher here at Richwoods was one of the few people on the trip who had never even heard the soundtrack. He enthusiastically said the play was “energetic and intense.” The seniors had such an amazing experience on this trip. If you want to tour a college in a big city, get some fabulous lunch, and go see Hamilton, I highly recommend the same path.
