Currents made by Tame Impala was released in 2015 and was his third project ever released. Kevin Parker aka Tame Impala was born on January 20, 1986, in Sydney Australia. Parker was raised in Western Australia; there his dad introduced him to rock such as the Beatles and Pink Floyd. It is a common misconception that Tame Impala is a band, Parker does all of his projects by himself. With 2 previous albums Innerspeaker, and Lonerism, Tame Impala was a decently well-known artist. But Currents will go down as his most popular and influential album of to date. Parker has amounted to receiving the APRA Songwriter of the year twice in 2016 and 2021, and headlined music festivals such as Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Glastonbury. Tame Impala’s prolific career has deemed him as one of the most prominent modern producers.
The album has a mix between the music genres of Disco, Contemporary R&B, Synth-Pop, and Psychedelic Pop making it very different from most genres of music. It is seen in songs like Eventually, The Moment, and The Less I Know the Better. As a guy whose taste varies from many genres, this album always remains one of my all-time favorites. This album can be listened to in the highs of life to the times where it seems hard. Whether you’re chilling with your friends, lifting at the gym, studying for homework, or even going for a walk, this album gets the job done. The album has a distinct feel, one that many albums can’t seem to get. I personally love and recommend this album with noise cancellation; you can almost hear the rhythm of the songs go through your ears. My favorite song is Let It Happen, which is 7 minutes and 47 seconds long. The song changes from an ominous feeling to a feeling of accomplishment and joy. Another song I really enjoy is love/paranoia, a shorter song 3 minutes 42 seconds long, but this song helps me lock in, especially when studying. Overall, I would rate this album 9.5 out of 10 and would recommend Currents it to anyone.
If you like Tame Impala or are interested in listening to him, there has been a lot of hype regarding his new album set to debut on October 17th. This is his most recent album since 2020. I agree with journalist Mack Hayden’s opinion when he says, “There’s a lushness to every instrumental and vocal decision here of a tone smacking of eternality. It’s psychedelic music less as a genre distinction and more as a legitimate description for how much your mind seems to expand when you listen to it. There are rewards aplenty to anyone who’ll give this record many listens, but they’re the kind which will shirk away if they’re sought out. Instead, you’ve just gotta sit back and let them come.”
