Mr. Myles Davis teaches audio visual, marketing, and business classes and is the football coach here at Richwoods. He coaches the Offensive and Defensive Line for the Varsity team and also is the Head Coach for the JV team and acts as the Middle School Liaison for our football program. He went to Richwoods for high school and Monmouth for college.
Before deciding to be a teacher, Mr. Davis worked various jobs, like a County Court Clerk, a hotel manager, and a Human resource assistant. However, he decided to become a teacher while working at Rivian, when he noticed that many young people didn’t recognize their potential and often sold themselves short. Many of the young adults from Peoria struggled with basic paperwork that was needed to work. So from there he decided to help students earlier on before they entered the workforce.
Mr. Davis worked at Liberty Leadership Middle school as the in-school suspension teacher. before coming to Richwoods, so I asked what it was like to coach football here at Richwoods. He said that coaching here at Richwoods motivates him more than anywhere else because he graduated from here. I also asked him what his experience in college was like, he said that in the beginning it was a bit difficult because he was more used to a big city scene than a small town. However, he later came to love the welcoming environment.
He also said that he played football in high school at Richwoods, where the team only lost three games. He earned All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State honors, and went on to continue his football career throughout college. He said that playing football at Richwoods taught him valuable lessons about accountability, time management, and how to overcome adversity. He also said that being a coach is how he can share his passion, whilst helping the next generation. One student at a time.
I asked what he was looking forward to for next year, and he said that he was excited to use the skills he gets from Ron Clark Academy over the summer to make next year even better than this one. Some fun facts about Mr. Davis is that he likes to fish and work on cars in his free time. He also likes all types of music, and currently his favorite artists are House Music, John Summit, and Zhu.
His advice for students is that “Know your worth and work every day to improve yourself. If what you’re doing isn’t helping you grow or getting you closer to your future goals, leave it behind.” Thank you so much to Mr. Davis for helping me with this interview and we are all excited to have you here at Richwoods!
